Hannah spent a week in Northern Nigeria in September 2018, for an art project with a group of courageous women, survivors of Boko Haram and Fulani violence, facilitated by Open Doors.
Following her time in Northern Nigeria, Hannah painted portraits of the women she had met. For the portraits, Hannah used lapis lazuli blue for the headdress, a precious pigment used for Renaissance paintings of the Virgin Mary. The patterns in gold leaf are inspired by traditional indigo fabric from the region.
These portraits were unveiled in an exhibition in Lambeth Palace November - February 2019.
