In August 2017 Hannah travelled to Iraqi Kurdistan, where she was invited to organise an art project with eight Yazidi women who had escaped ISIS captivity.
After learning to draw and paint for the first time, these Yazidi women requested that Hannah paint their portraits. They saw this as a way to share their stories with the rest of the world. They chose to be painted in the white robes of Yazidi traditional dress.
Following her return, Hannah painted portraits of each of the Yazidi women. The gold leaf shows the sacred value of these women, in spite of all that they have suffered in the hands of ISIS. It is symbolic of the restoration of dignity.
These paintings were unveiled in the UK Houses of Parliament March 2018, alongside the Yazidi women's self-portraits, to advocate behalf of the Yazidi community. His Majesty King Charles III chose three of the portraits for his 2018 exhibition ‘Prince & Patron’ in Buckingham Palace.
